When your car is not working properly and you need to take it to an auto repair shop, you may want to consider going to a place that specializes in one aspect of repair. these shops may be franchises, corporate, or individually owned. Each one of these has pros and cons, so it will be up to you to determine which you prefer. If you are not sure of what to do, ask friends and family who they use. Here are a few of the different types of specialized ships.

Muffler

There are a number of muffler shops out there. They don't just take care of mufflers but the whole exhaust system. You can go to them to have a custom exhaust installed, but most corporate and franchised shops will not be able to build you one from scratch. However, you may find a privately owned shop that can create the whole thing for you.

Transmission

When you have transmission problems, the vehicle is not going to run well, if at all. This is a big repair that can get costly. When calling around to find the right shop ask if they have any rebuilt transmissions available or if they are capable of rebuilding yours. Ideally, you do not want to go to a place that simply swaps out your transmission for a brand-new one from the factory. While this may be what you want, you should still go with a shop that could rebuild too. This means the mechanics have more knowledge and experience; two things that you should always look for in an auto mechanic.

Tires

If you simply drive your car to and from work on well-maintained roads, and your car is not a sports or high-performance model, you could probably go to any place that sells and installs tires and not have a problem. However, when you want or need specialty tires or tires that provide extra performance, you should go to a specialty tire shop. They will make sure the tires are properly balanced and aligned and will offer a warranty not only for the tires but for the work done too.

Unless you are a certified mechanic, have one in the family, or just have the ability to buy a new car when something goes wrong with yours, you are going to end up needing an auto repair shop at some point in your life. Going to a shop that specializes in one part of the vehicle is a good option because that is all they work on all day, every day. Look for an auto repair shop near you to learn more.
